Course Guide
The Waldorf Institute of Southeastern Michigan offers a year-round format of courses on the weekend (Friday evening and Saturday). The term schedule for the year-round program begins with a 3-5 day summer intensive in August. Two 10-week terms, one in the Fall, September to December and one in the Spring, March to May, complete the year. Courses are offered in Ann Arbor on Saturdays and in Detroit or Rochester Hills on Friday evenings. Enrollment is on a rolling basis and you may apply to begin at the start of any term. With our rolling enrollment, the order of course requirements may vary depending on the semester you begin. Foundation studies classes are taken concurrently with teacher education classes.
The Foundation Studies
The Foundation Studies program gives an introduction to the ideas and initiatives of Rudolf Steiner. Conceptual and artistic studies provide the basis for the Waldorf School curriculum and for a personal path of development. Completion of these studies is a co-requisite to the Elementary Education and Early Childhood Teacher Education programs. An interview will be required to enter Foundation Studies for certification however students may audit classes without applying into a certification program. Candidates for the Waldorf certificate should submit an application, complete with transcripts, references and the $50 application fee to the Institute.

Elementary Education
The Elementary Education Program is designed to develop pedagogical and artistic capacities within the prospective Waldorf Class Teacher (Grades 1-8). Many courses are also appropriate for teachers seeking certification or personal renewal and parents interested in Waldorf methodology. Homeschooling parents are welcome to take classes for a certificate or on an audit basis. All candidates for the Waldorf Certificate should submit an application, complete with transcripts, references and the $50 application fee to the Institute. An interview will be required. Candidates for the Elementary Education program must also concurrently complete the Foundation Studies classes, or have equivalent experience.

Early Childhood Education
The Early Childhood Education Program is designed to develop pedagogical and artistic capacities within the prospective Nursery,
Preschool or Kindergarten Teacher. Some courses are also appropriate for teachers seeking certification or personal renewal and parents interested in Waldorf methodology.
Candidates for the Waldorf Certificate should submit an application, complete with transcripts, references and the $50 application fee to the Institute. An interview will be required. Candidates for the Early Childhood Education program must also concurrently complete the Foundation Studies classes, or have equivalent experience.
